KERALA – THE GODS OWN COUNTRY

Kerala, rich in kera (coconut) is the land of greeneries and keras and thus it is given the title Kerala. There is no confusion for the title “THE GODS OWN COUNTRY” it is the gift from god and hence it is the heaven in this world. Known for its tourist attraction, number of tourist spots that welcomes tourists from all over the world.

The state is gifted with greenery and water. There are lot of tourist spots. Kovalam is a well known beach. Thekkady is equally known for its wild life. For people who love silence, this state has Silent Valley, which is the only forest where the insects don’t make any sound. If you want to be still closer to nature then we have Wynad and Munnar in the Western Ghats or if you want to enjoy the beauty of sea and mountains, then don’t wait travel along the west coast of Kerala or just take a train ride from Kasargode to Trivandrum. 

Keralalites speak Malayalam as it is their mother tongue. But one speciality everyone will spot is that in kerala language is not a problem for anyone, people handles any language English , hindi, kannada and tamil. Even some people speak other foreign languages like german, chineese etc. So any non malayali who visits kerala will never face any problem regarding the language. As the subject of quite a lot of jokes, you may find the pronounciation a bit hilarious. But that is quite common in any part of India! Our traditional dress is Mundu for men and a slightly longer version of the same for women. Now a days, it is very difficult to see such costumes. The changing times have resulted in people switching over to more easy to use stuff.

Kerala has also been a home to the Mysore Dynasty. Rulers such as Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali have fought battles here against British. This state was originally called as “Travancore” but in 1949 it was named as Kerala. Coming to the economic and social status any keralalite can proudly says the state is surplus with its economic and social status. Kerala produces 90% of the nation’s rubber in addition to spices, coffee, tea, coconut, lemon grass oil and tapioca. The economy of this state is dependent on Koir, Cashew, Bamboo and Handloom industry. All the religions are practiced here with the Hindus and Muslims in majority followed by Christians and then other religions. Kerala is known for its amazing progress in terms of quality of life, education and cleanliness.

As everybody knows kerala is known for its tourist attractions. Kerala has emerged as a very prominent tourist destination. Kerala is divided into three interesting tourist regions – Northern Kerala known as Malabar, Central Kerala known as Kochi and Southern Kerala known as Travancore. The peaceful expanses of emerald backwaters, exotic hill stations, serene Arabian Sea and unique flora and fauna is what the tourists look for in Kerala. The major tourist places are beaches such as Kovalam beach, Vizhinjam beach, Varkala beach, and Shankumugham beach. The state is also offer hill stations such as Munnar and Nelliyampathy, beautiful waterfalls like palaruvi, Athirappalli water falls e.t.c. Backwater scenes are also luxurious to enjoy including kochi, veli, alappuzha and kumarakam. Wild life lovers can enjoy keralas national parks such as Parambikkulam national park, peppara national parks e.t.c.
